Fundraising During a Pandemic

Angie DeBolt • August 4, 2020

Fundraising at any time is a strenuous task that requires hours upon hours of preparation. Trying to raise funds for a non-profit group during this COVID pandemic required a tenacious spirit and strong-willed community to come together to make this a reality. Organizations that may be taking a dip still need to be willing to contribute, companies that need the support of the community themselves need to still allow donations, and individuals who may be struggling still need to bid on items to make an auction successful.

Mark Young Construction (MYC) usually holds an annual chili cook-off and silent auction to raise funds for the Denver Firefighters Charitable Foundation. The in-person event was scheduled for the weekend things started to get shut down. Like many companies, MYC needed to shift to this new normal and transitioned the in-person event to a website for an online auction this year.

During this unexpected and challenging time, we are happy to report some light at the end of the tunnel. Because of our amazing community and sponsors, we were still able to raise more than $10,000 for the charity in 2020. The funds will be used to aid children recovering from trauma of burn injuries (burn camp), support for medical burn care professionals, assistance to fire victims, and support for firefighters and their families.

That being said, some big thank yous are in order.

King Soopers #154 Silverstone Marketplace - Frederick, CO
By Angie DeBolt March 8, 2024
MYC began working on the Silverstone Marketplace project in Frederick in January 2024. We are working closely with Evergreen, who is developing roughly 61 acres of land at the northwest corner of Highway 52 and Colorado Boulevard. The development will be anchored by King Soopers #154, along with two multi-tenant retail buildings and eight outer lot retail pads. Current work includes a new collector street along the north side of the project, street improvements along Colorado Boulevard including a new roundabout, and widening along eastbound and westbound Highway 52. MYC also won the King Soopers new build and once the site is ready, we will work on the 123,000 SF building which will not only be the first grocery store in the Town of Frederick, but also the largest grocery store in the Carbon Valley, creating approximately 300 employment opportunities.

MYC is honored to have been selected as the CM/GC to work closely with the City and County of Denver and Oz Architecture for the new Denver Fire Station 40. The new fire station will be at 56th avenue and Telluride Street and will improve response times for this rapidly growing area. MYC was also selected as the CM/GC to rebuild Aurora Fire Station #9. We look forward to building a safer and more comfortable station for these deserving firefighters.

On October 6, American Subcontractors Association Colorado celebrated their 36 th Annual Excellence in Construction and Women of Construction Awards Gala at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Each year, ASAC members nominate individuals and companies in 15 categories. Nominations are received and vetted, the ASAC Awards Committee compiles the ASAC Awards Gala Ballot. Each member company votes for the individual/company in each of the categories. Votes are tallied, and the top three (3) vote recipients in each category are the finalists for the award. There were multiple award categories that MYC or our staff were nominated for. Congrats to Amanda Rivera, Up and Coming award nominee; Kristen Oskarson, Top Performer award nominee; and Layla Betts, ASAC Member Choice award nominee. We are honored to share that MYC was awarded as the Contractor of the Year over $100M! Thanks to the entire team for pitching in to get this special award.
